Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) - LMATS

LMATS are members of Weld Australia (WTIA), are an approved testing center for the Australian Welder Certification Register (AWCR).

LMATS  are capable of testing welders to all standards, ASME IX, AWS, AS/ NZS, ISO, API, BS and write/review PQR/WPS should clients require these services as we are a Fully Independent third party.

The LMATS  Weld Procedure Specification and Welder Qualification Test staff are highly qualified with "Certificate 10" and “International Welding Engineer”

All welder testing done on premises providing results within 24hrs of welder completing test coupon, no need to send coupons to third party.

A welding procedure is a document which details every essential and non-essential variables in the welding process involved to weld a particular type of joint.
A welding procedure contains details of:

  • material type
  • form and shape
  • welding process
  • consumables
  • joint design and preparation
  • welding current and voltage
  • polarity
  • preheat and postheat temperature
  • travel speed, etc.
Specific ISO quality assurance standard codes  are the driving force behind the development of a company's Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is a  mandatory requirement of many application standards and customer specifications,  Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) are a key part of the quality system element of process control, and control of these documents is essential.

A pre-qualified WPS is determined via predetermined variables and the standard ie. Material, consumable matched to the material, service temperature, pre-heat and type of joint.
A PQR is still required to get the base line current, voltage, heat input and travel speed
A pre-qualified WPS just cuts down on the amount of mechanical testing required to prove a sound joint.

A Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) provides assurance of quality, safety and integrity to the welded item. Legislation and  business insurers require that welders are qualified to the welding procedures being applied, thereby safeguarding the warranty and quality of the work; to achieve this, it is a requirement that the welder be Qualified to undertake the work. to achieve this a  Weld Procedure is a fundamental requirement.

LMATS can help you with the creation and review of a Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) and Welder Qualification Test Record (WPQR)

LMATS are an industry leader in Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and one of a few that are certified to confirm a Welder Qualification Test Record (WPQR) testing of coupons in house.

A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is a document specifically written describing the welding process, to provide direction to welding operators, to reproduce quality welds as per the welding standard requirement.

The purpose of the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) document is to guide welders through the accepted procedures thus creating repeatable and trusted welding techniques.

A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is developed for each material alloy and for each welding process.

Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is supported by a Procedure Qualification Record (PQR ) or Welder Qualification Test Record (WPQR). A Procedure Qualification Record is a record of a test weld performed and tested (more rigorously) to ensure that the procedure will produce a quality weld that meets the standard set by the Welding Procedure specification (WPS), Welders sitting AS1796 Certificates 1 to 9 tests can become certified, prerequisites apply.

Individual welders are qualified with a qualification test documented in a Welder Qualification Test Record (WQTR) that shows they have the understanding and demonstrated ability to work within the specified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).

Through records and regular NDT testing maintained by employer welder qualifications may be extended past the initial 6 months or regular testing will be required every 6 months to maintain welder qualification
