LMATS performs and is accredited for a wide range of chemical analysis services for metals and other materials. These include portable XRF analysis (PMI/CMI), optical emissions spectroscopy (OES), inductively-coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP spectroscopy), lead paint, LECO combusion (sulphur and nitrogen), and fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR).

In metals and alloys, the type and quantity of each element (chemical composition) decides the material grades and it applications. Chemical composition is also used to calculate carbon equivalent (CE) in welding engineering, to calculate Pitting Resistance Equivalent (PRE or PREN) in the corrosion resistance industry, hardenability in heat treatment industry and strength related properties in the engineering applications. The correct chemical analysis is very important for certain materials such as Nitrogen content in duplex stainless steel and Oxygen in electrical grades Copper and Boron content in weldable stell.
